After an infamous onstage (and backstage) brawl put an end to their reunion tour, the collective members of Jane’s Addiction have managed to settle their differences. The multi-platinum alternative rock group had split into two camps following a disastrous onstage altercation between vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro that transpired during a September 2024 show in Boston, MA. During that set, Farrell was seen to have swung at Navarro, and reportedly punched him backstage afterwards.
Just months into reuniting their classic lineup at the time of that altercation, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins publicly condemned Farrell for his actions and brought the band to an end. The weeks and months that followed would see dueling statements offered, Farrell reportedly seeking medical assistance, and more.
Things escalated this past July, when Farrell was hit with a lawsuit filed by his above-mentioned ex-bandmates. In their suit, that trio alleged assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract against Farrell. Furthermore, that complaint went on to allege that Farrell‘s actions caused the parties involved losses of over $10 million.
Their complaint further alleged that Farrell had been exhibiting intoxicated behavior onstage during the tour regularly, citing an apparent indulgence in wine. Footage of a rocky performance from Farrell just days ahead of the Boston, MA show raised eyebrows as to his live capabilities.
Farrell himself would go on to file a suit of his own against the aforementioned trio, claiming they had engaged in a campaign of harassment against him and years of bullying, including turning the levels of his in-ears to high volume and more. He further went on to accuse them of breaking up the band in violation of their contracts.
In a pair of statements issued today, December 17th, the group announced that they have reconciled their differences, but will not be reuniting. That collective statement reads as follows:
“We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024.
After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry‘s mental health which we regret.
Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together.
We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together.
You, the fans, are our lifeblood, and we will always appreciate you.”
A separate statement issued by Farrell reads:
“To everyone in Boston, and around the world.
I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.
Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.
My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.
Perry Farrell“
This past August saw potential signs that Navarro, Avery and Perkins will be continuing on together in some fashion, as that trio were spotted in the studio together.
