Jane's Addiction Go On Hiatus, Cancel Fall Tour Following Onstage Fight In Boston

Jane’s Addiction‘s reunion tour of their classic era has met a premature end — for now. This past Friday, September 13th, saw tensions boil over onstage between vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro at a show in Boston, MA. Fan-filmed footage of that incident found Farrell to be the aggressor, shouting and physically confronting and shoving/swinging at Navarro onstage mid-song, before being restrained by bandmates and other personnel working the show.

According to a firsthand report from Farrell‘s wife Etty, Farrell received several blows from bassist Eric Avery while being restrained after the incident. Etty blamed Perry‘s frustrations with the live audio mix and issues with his voice and ears as leading to the tension.

However, the multi-platinum alternative rockers’ September 10th set a few days prior in New York City, NY couldn’t have helped tensions between bandmates. Farrell was seen to have delivered a particularly sloppy performance that night, leaving fans to question his sobriety and request refunds.

While the group issued an apology over the weekend in response to the onstage dust-up and canceled last night’s show, the decision has now come down to scrap the rest of the trek. In a statement issued this morning, the group offered:

“To all the fans,

The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.

As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.

Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, please reach out to them direct.

Thank you,
Jane’s Addiction“

Navarro himself seemingly teased this conclusion yesterday, sharing a post of himself holding an acoustic guitar with the Jane’s Addiction logo, captioning the post ‘Goodnight…’. It’s a sadly ignominious end to what was supposed to be a celebration of the band’s legacy and a rebirth of their classic lineup.

With Navarro finally able to overcome his battle with long COVID this past spring, and Avery having rejoined the fold in 2022, the group were finally able to deliver on resurrecting the lineup that brought them their biggest hits for the first time in over a decade.

Plans were also forging ahead for new material from the group, as they released their first new song in 34 years with that vaunted roster in the form of “Imminent Redemption” this past July.

This now ill-fated reunion run had been scheduled to continue through to October 16th.
