Disturbed vocalist David Draiman has publicly expressed his hopes to have a conversation with Green Day vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong. With numerous politically-charged tracks in their catalog, Armstrong has been shown to be vehemently against current U.S. President Donald Trump over the years, and has been updating various lyrics of Green Day‘s songs live to reflect his disdain and criticism for the administration.
One such recent lyrical update took place at this past weekend’s ‘Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival‘ in Indio, CA where Armstrong reworked the lyrics for their 2004 track, “Jesus Of Suburbia“. Instead of, “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized”, Armstrong sang “Running away from pain like the kids from Palestine.”
It would appear that recent alteration sparked the interest of Draiman, who has longstanding familial ties to Israel and regularly advocates for the country and Jewish causes, especially amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Draiman‘s staunch support for the country saw him draw some controversy back in 2024, after he signed an expletive directed towards Hamas on an Israel Defense Forces artillery shell.
Speaking on X this morning, April 14th, Draiman offered the following invitation publicly to Armstrong to have a discussion about the ongoing conflict:
“Open offer to #BillyJoeArmstrong from
@GreenDayYou know I respect you brother.
I’d love to have the opportunity for you to hear the Israeli/Jewish side of this horrific war.
I’m available to discuss whenever you are.
No judgement, nothing preconceived.
Let me know.”
