Former Anti-Flag vocalist Justin Sane (aka Justin Geever) has been ordered to pay his rape accuser $1.9 million after failing to respond to her allegations in court. The politically-oriented punk band, who presented themselves as pro-feminist, dissolved in July of 2023, following a sexual assault allegation about Sane emerging online regarding an alleged 2010 incident. In a pair of separate statements, the band and Sane would go on to part ways roughly a week later.
An exposé penned by Rolling Stone in September of 2023 found 13 women come forward with disturbing allegations of their own against Sane. In November of that year, Sane‘s initial accuser, Kristina Sarhadi, filed a civil sexual assault lawsuit against Sane, however, Sane reportedly became evasive in numerous attempts to get the suit served, having been said to have fled the United States.
While Sarhadi would also sue the band for negligence, those claims were ultimately dismissed. Now Billboard report that Sane has been ordered to pay $1.9 million to Sarhadi, having been found liable by default for failing to respond the assault and sexual battery lawsuit she filed against him.
The verdict was handed down to Sane this past Tuesday, July 22nd. That $1.9 million ruling includes $750,000 being awarded for pain and suffering and $420,800 for the costs of therapy to address post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety stemming from the alleged 2010 rape.
