Year Of The Knife vocalist Madi Watkins has officially been discharged from a medical facility in Salt Lake City, UT, where she has been housed since the band’s horrific van accident in the city in late June. Watkins was left with significant brain trauma, a broken jaw on both sides, as well as a broken femur, pelvis & ankle, and a fractured tibia.
In addition to undergoing multiple surgeries for the injuries she sustained, she has been undergoing months of physical therapy, cognitive therapy and speech therapy. While discharged, it would appear that she still has a long road to recovery ahead of her, as outlined by this update shared by the band’s camp last month.
Madi‘s transition back home is expected to require a number of updates to her residence in to make the house more mobility friendly as she continues to convalesce from her injuries. As such, the band’s GoFundMe remains active.
Her husband (and Year Of The Knife bandmate) Brandon Watkins, shared the good news regarding her discharge from the hospital earlier today, September 29th, posting the below video:

Earlier this week Brandon offered some insight into the challenges Madi still faces, offering:
It’s hard to show the scope of Madis injuries just in a video. Her cognition has been majorly damaged. Luckily it’s healing quickly. It’s so scary. This whole situation is so shitty. Im so happy to share new music with you all, its just made me feel a lot of emotion.

Months prior to the accident, Year Of The Knife recorded a new album titled “No Love Lost“. Earlier this week the group debuted a pair of songs from it, while also announcing an October 27th release for it.
The band’s record label, Pure Noise Records have generously made the decision to donate all proceeds raised from the album towards the band’s recovery fund.
