Last year saw thrash metal legends Metallica experience an explosive resurgence in popularity thanks to the inclusion of their music on Netflix‘s runaway hit series ‘Stranger Things‘. The finale of season four of that series saw the band’s title track to their 1986 album “Master Of Puppets” played on guitar by the show’s beloved metalhead character Eddie Munson (played by actor Joseph Quinn) during a pivotal scene.
As a result, a whirlwind of new interest in the band and that song in particular followed, and the veteran Bay Area act were all for it. As the 35-year-old single rocketed back up the charts thanks to the show, the band jammed backstage with Joseph Quinn.
They also opted to close their concerts with the track last summer with the track and even got in on some co-branded merch. If the above wasn’t enough of an indication of how big of a moment it was, the song itself also became playable in the megahit video game ‘Fornite‘, which itself serves as yet another gateway to a whole new audience for the band.
Which is all to say, it’s no surprise to see that the moment has now been immortalized in vinyl figure form. Funko have announced the upcoming release of a new deluxe display set of that memorable guitar battle, with Munson, Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and the various demobats they sought out to distract. A release date has yet to be disclosed.
