Another lawsuit against Marilyn Manson has been dismissed by the courts. Consequence report that the suit filed against Manson by Ashley Morgan Smithline was dismissed without prejudice yesterday, January 03rd.
Smithline filed suit against Manson in the summer of 2021. Her original complaint featured allegations of sexual assault, sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, unlawful imprisonment and violations of both the Bane Act and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act against the 53-year-old shock rocker.
According to Consequence, Smithline‘s attorney withdrew his representation this past December and Smithline failed to secure new representation within the window of time granted to her by the judge to do so.
Consequence also report that Manson‘s representatives pointed out that Smithline and her attorney had apparently been having difficulty seeing eye to eye as far back as this past spring. Manson‘s attorney Howard King said of this latest dismissal:
“We thank and commend Ashley Smithline for dismissing her claims against Brian Warner without seeking or receiving anything in return. Ms. Smithline has refused to be manipulated by others who are trying to pursue their own agendas against Mr. Warner. We wish her well and will continue to work to assure that a significant price will be paid by those who have tried to abuse our legal system.”
Over a dozen women came forward with disturbing allegations against Manson in the wake of his ex-fiancée Evan Rachel Wood publicly accusing him of abuse in early 2021. A number of those women went on to file suit against Manson, including actress Esmé Bianco and an unidentified woman.
Manson himself denied the initial allegations made against him. His legal team claimed in July of 2021 that the accusations were part of an orchestrated conspiracy. To that end, Manson later went on to file a defamation suit against Wood and Illma Gore in the early months of 2022. In that suit, Manson alleged that Wood and Gore orchestrated a campaign of sexual assault allegations in a bid to defame him, coaxing and manipulating several women into coming forward against him.
This past May saw a Los Angeles superior court judge dismiss the lawsuit filed by Manson‘s ex-personal assistant Ashley Walters. She had originally filed suit against him back in the spring of 2021, alleging sexual assault, harassment, battery and more. Walters‘ case was dismissed as a result of the judge feeling there were issues with the case overcoming the already lapsed statute of limitations.
