Marilyn Manson (aka Brian Warner) has officially been accused of abuse by his former fiancée, actress Evan Rachel Wood. It has long been suspected that it was Manson who Wood was discussing when she gave this testimony in 2019 of the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of a then unidentified individual when she was 18-years-old—the same time she was seeing Manson.
Wood gave that testimony in front of a House Judiciary Subcommittee on behalf of The Phoenix Act, which aimed to remove the 3 year statute of limitations for reporting a domestic violence incident in California. That act was eventually passed and officially signed into law last year.
The aforementioned testimony saw Wood detail incidents of physical and psychological abuse, including apparent torturous behavior and more. When asked by a Twitter user in March of 2019 why she never named her abuser, Wood replied “They threatened to kill me or have me killed.”
In a new statement issued earlier today, February 01st, Wood stated the following of Manson and their relationship:
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.
I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Back in 2009, Manson told Spin of his then somewhat fresh breakup with Wood:
“I sing about it on ‘Into the Fire.’ I say, ‘If you want to hit bottom, don’t bother trying to take me with you.’ My lowest point was Christmas Day 2008, because I didn’t speak to my family. My walls were covered in scrawlings of the lyrics and cocaine bags nailed to the wall. And I did have an experience where I was struggling to deal with being alone and being forsaken and being betrayed by putting your trust in one person, and making the mistake of that being the wrong person. And that’s a mistake that everyone can relate to. I made the mistake of trying to, desperately, grasp on and save that and own it. And every time I called her that day — I called 158 times — I took a razorblade and I cut myself on my face or on my hands.
I look back and it was a really stupid thing to do. This was intentional, this was a scarification, and this was like a tattoo. I wanted to show her the pain she put me through. It was like, ‘I want you to physically see what you’ve done.’ It sounds made up but it’s completely true and I don’t give a shit if people believe it or not. I’ve got the scars to prove it. I didn’t want people to ask me every time I did an interview, ‘Oh, is this record about your relationship with your ex-girlfriend?’ But that damage is part of it, and the song ‘I Want to Kill You Like They Do in The Movies’ is about my fantasies. I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.”
Last year saw Manson abruptly end an interview with Metal Hammer when asked about the allegations made by Wood. Meanwhile, Vanity Fair report that several other women have come forward with allegations against Manson as well. You can find them below:
Notably Manson was accused of unspecific sex crimes back in 2018 for incidents allegedly dating back to 2011. The Los Angeles District’s Attorney office would later go on to decline to pursue the matter, citing a lack of evidence. Thus far Manson does not yet appear to have addressed these new allegations brought forth against him, though his representatives have categorically denied them in the past.
Back in 2017, Manson fired his bassist Jeordie “Twiggy Ramirez” White following a rape allegation leveled against him by his former girlfriend Jessicka Addams. When asked a year later about the matter, Manson stated of his relationship with White, “I did not divorce Twiggy as a friend or brother, because I still care about him greatly.”
Update: February 01st, 2020 11:36 AM:
Dan Cleary, who identified himself as a former personal assistant for Manson and a member of his touring staff, also shared this Twitter thread this past September, showing his support for those who had accused Manson of abuse and more. Cleary, who more recently has been teching for Jane’s Addiction, also commented on Wood and the other woman naming their alleged abuser in a post made earlier today:
It’s gonna be a long day for someone. Shit, meet the fan. I told you before. Believe the women. Proud of them for naming their abuser. There’s strength in numbers. Sadly the number is high. ??
