New details have come in regarding last weekend’s passing of Limp Bizkit bassist and co-founder, Sam Rivers. TMZ report that authorities in St. Johns County, FL responded to a call this past Saturday, October 18th, for a “nonresponsive person in cardiac arrest.” While the St. Johns County Sheriff’s office has yet determine a cause of death, the deputies noted that they responded to the situation as part of an “attended death” call.

Generally that means that a licensed healthcare professional has been in attendance and the individual who passed had been battling a serious or life-threatening illness with death being an expected outcome in a matter of weeks or months.

Given that Rivers was seen sporting a shirt with the phrase “fuck cancer” on tour — as prominently noted the below post shared by his Limp Bizkit bandmate DJ Lethal in the wake of Rivers‘ passing — there has been speculation among the group’s fan community that Rivers could have been battling the disease.

The band announced the death of the 48-year-old Rivers on October 18th, issuing this statement. Limp Bizkit vocalist Fred Durst later shared an emotional video statement a day after Rivers‘ passing, reflecting on how integral Rivers was to the group. Rivers had previously been sidelined by health issues a number of years back, including a liver transplant brought on by struggles with addiction.

For now, it appears as though the nü-metal stars will continue on, as a promoter for the band’s planned November 29th live appearance at the Explanada del Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, Mexico has issued the following statement yesterday, October 20th:

“We deeply regret the passing of Sam Rivers, founding bassist of Limp Bizkit, whose talent and legacy marked generations and will continue to resonate in every note of his music.

In such a significant moment for the band and its fans, Limp Bizkit has decided to continue with its performance on November 29th at the Explanada Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, as part of its ‘Gringo Papi Tour‘ 2025.

That night, every riff and every scream of the crowd will resonate in honor of the great legacy Sam offered to to Nu-Metal, because his energy will never cease.

See you soon!”
