Cavalera, the collective led by the brotherly duo of Brazilian metal legends Max and Iggor, have released a new track in conjunction with new DLC for the latest ‘Street Fighter‘ video game, ‘Street Fighter 6‘. The band penned the track “Piledriver” for the occasion, using the mainstay ‘Street Fighter‘ character ‘Zangief‘ as inspiration. That thrashy track appears to pay some not so subtle nods to a certain early 90s Ministry staple.
This new track serves as the spiritual soundtrack for tomorrow’s (October 15th) release of Zangief‘s ‘Outfit 4’ DLC. Additionally, cosmetic gear featuring the Cavalera logo will be made available in the game for free as well.
This unexpected pairing came about due to ‘Street Fighter‘ director Takayuki Nakayama‘s longtime fandom of the Cavalera brothers’ musical output. He said of that:
“Having grown up listening to Sepultura, Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy, I never imagined that one day I would work with heroes like Max and Iggor. When I found out they had accepted the job — bands I loved since my school days — our sound team, made up of other metal lovers, and I went absolutely wild with joy.
They showed us their raw and unique worldview in ‘Morbid Visions‘, made history with ‘Chaos A.D.‘, collaborated with my equally beloved Mike Patton on ‘Roots‘ (my favorite album) and gave me a lot of motivation when I heard ‘Back To The Primitive‘, by Soulfly. What I’m trying to say is that I am truly and deeply grateful! Thank you.”
