Deadsy vocalist Elijah Blue Allman is reported as having overdosed in Southern California over the weekend and is said to have subsequently been rushed to hospital yesterday morning, June 14th. TMZ ran the story, noting in their report that the substance used to cause the overdose is currently unclear. In the past, Blue has openly battled with substance abuse.
This worrying report follows him and his mother, Cher, reaching a settlement last fall following a conservatorship dispute. Cher had set to out to restrict Elijah‘s access to annual trust fund payments established for him by his late father, Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Per court filing those payments amount to roughly $120,000 annually, with Cher‘s initial petition for temporary conservatorship filed in 2023 stating:
“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, petitioner [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk. Elijah is currently unable to manage his finances and the distribution of funds directly to Elijah would not be in his best interests.”
In a follow-up court proceeding in early 2024, Elijah stated that he had been “clean and sober” for three months, telling the court in part:
“Like many people, I have struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible. However, I am now under the care of Dr. Howard Samuels and am attending AA meetings. I have dismissed my petition for dissolution of marriage and I am reconciling with my wife so that we can work on our relationship now that I have found a path to sobriety.”
