Back in August of 2021, James “Jimmy Urine” Euringer, vocalist of outlandish electropunkers Mindless Self Indulgence, was named as a defendant in a rather disturbing lawsuit. A woman, filing as a Jane Doe, accused the singer/actor of sexual assault, grooming, misconduct and more.

She alleged that those incidents had occurred during a sexual relationship she claimed to have had with Euringer that was initiated when she was 15 and he was 27. According to her suit, that relationship took place between the years of 1997-1999. Furthermore, per her suit, their relationship ended in late 1999, because Euringer ‘lost interest’ in her after she turned 18.

The woman’s complaint alleged that Euringer, “groomed and manipulated [her] into believing that his sexually assaultive behavior was not criminal and that by engaging in sexual activity with him Plaintiff was actually helping to protect younger girls from sexual assaults.”

She further claimed that he encouraged her to “act like a small child, and suck her thumb, drool, and pee in her pants.” She also went on to claim that their relationship was the inspiration for “pedophilic themes” featured in select songs from Mindless Self Indulgence‘s catalog. Along with that, she claimed that a photo of her taken when she was 15 was used on a promotional t-shirt released by the band.

In light of label involvement in the latter two claims, she also named Mindless Self Indulgence‘s past label home and associates Warner Music Group, Warner Communications LLC and Elektra Entertainment Group in the suit. She claimed that they had aided and abetted sexual battery, and were responsible for negligence, as well as being complicit in the ratification of sexual battery. The band’s ex-manager and producer Joseph Galus was also named in the suit.

In March of 2023, Judge John P. Cronan sided with the aforementioned labels’ motion to dismiss the claims against them. Judge Cronan ultimately deemed that the plaintiff’s allegations failed to meet the necessary requirements to merit the claims under New York law.

As the case continued forward, the claims against Galus were also voluntarily dismissed. Amidst Euringer pushing to have the remainder of the lawsuit dismissed, the plaintiff and Euringer negotiated an agreement to settle out of court.

On March 17th of this year, Greenberg Gross LLP, who served as council for the Jane Doe, confirmed the end of the proceedings, telling Judge Cronan, “Plaintiff and Defendant Euringer have reached an agreement to settle this case. The parties are in the process of executing, and complying with, the formal agreement. Should the parties complete the settlement, the parties will promptly notify this Court and request resumption of the litigation.”

As of March 28th of this year, the request to close the case was granted, with no further filings having been made since. Notably, a March 26th filing ahead of the case being closed stipulated that the settlement of the case was done so with prejudice.

That stipulation bars the the plaintiff from refiling the claim or bringing forth any other lawsuit based on the claims. That filing also indicated that each party would bear the cost of their own associated legal fees.

With numerous months having passed since the case was closed, Euringer has remained silent on social media. His last post was made back in 2021. Likewise, Mindless Self Indulgence‘s social media accounts have remained silent as well, last having posted back in 2020.

As such, there’s been no indications yet as to any potential plans to return to music either via his solo Euringer project or with Mindless Self Indulgence. If you want to delve deeper into how the case played out, you can find corresponding filings via pacermonitor.com.
