Scowl Drop Off Of 2024 ‘Welcome To Rockville’ Festival Due To U.S. Army Sponsoring The Event

Scowl have announced that they have backed out of their planned appearance at this year’s ‘Welcome To Rockville‘ due to the U.S. Army being a sponsor for the 2024 edition of the annual fest. Last month saw the aforementioned melodic hardcore band take a similar stance against the annual ‘South By Southwest‘ event in Austin, TX, due to the sponsorship of the U.S. Army and Defense contractors. Dozens of bands would go on to follow suit, withdrawing from officially sanctioned events from the annual music festival of sorts.

That move led Texas Governor Greg Abbott to comment on the matter, offering:

“Bands pull out of SXSW over U.S. Army sponsorship.

Bye. Don’t come back.

Austin remains the HQ for the Army Futures Command.

San Antonio is Military City USA.

We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas.

If you don’t like it, don’t come here.”

Commenting on this latest decision to back out of a fest in protest of military involvement, the band stated today, April 02nd:

“We will not be performing at this year’s Welcome To Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, FL due to the US Army’s Sponsorship of the event.”

This year’s ‘Welcome To Rockville‘ festival will take place May 09th-12th in Daytona Beach, FL with headlining sets from Foo Fighters, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit and numerous others. Primary sponsors for ‘Welcome To Rockville‘ include Bud Light, Jack Daniel’s, Lyte, Beatbox, Jägermeister and more.
