Jordan Blake, who served as the original frontman for post-hardcore outfit A Skylit Drive, has passed away. Blake originally exited the group in 2007 for health-related issues. However, In early 2022, he and some of the band’s other early members resurrected their incarnation of the group for select live performances.
That return led to confusion and controversy, as a bitter trademark lawsuit with current A Skylit Drive vocalist Michael Jagmin erupted. The then Blake-fronted faction of the group would go on to file a countersuit, with those proceedings still moving forward as of last month.
While Jagmin appears to have retained the band’s trademarks thus far and continues to perform as A Skylit Drive, Blake and co. were functioning under the moniker of ‘Original A.S.D.‘. However, Jordan and Jagmin would go on to mend fences this year, with the pair issuing a joint statement this past March.
Blake discussed that union as “a journey of healing and new beginnings”. In that same post, Blake also opened up a bit on his struggles with addiction and mental health. Blake‘s decision to side with Jagmin was not well received by Blake‘s Original A.S.D. bandmates.
It was that faction of the group who broke the sad news of Blake‘s death earlier today (May 01st). The below statement was issued on the matter:
“We are overwhelmed with grief to inform you of the loss of Jordan early this morning. Jordan was a trail blazer in the emo/post hardcore music scene with undeniable passion who loved his fans like family. When he had a story to tell, you could read it in his lyrics, hear it in his voice, see it his movements and feel it in your depths. We will forever reflect fondly on the memories and music we shared. We love you Jordan, we’ll see you down the road brother. “Always in our Hearts”.
We want to respect Jordan’s family’s wishes for privacy and space to grieve so we will not be commenting until further notice. Thank you all for reaching out and for your kind words. His legacy will live on through all of you.”
