Australian hard rockers AC/DC have been forced to cancel their planned September 16th set in Toronto, ON next week. The group made the announcement tonight, September 09th, being forced to pull the plug in light of extensive damage being sustained to the venue following severe weather. Much speculation was placed in Canadian media in recent days, in light of the Live Nation run open air Rogers Stadium being deemed unsafe by city inspectors after being damaged by weather.
Several statements were issued on the matter by relevant parties and can be found below. The venue’s main statement read:
“Following a thorough assessment of Rogers Stadium after last week’s extreme weather event, Live Nation today announced that the upcoming AC/DC concert has been cancelled due to severe damage to portions of the venue.
Safety for employees, fans, artists and vendors is always paramount. Last Wednesday’s storm was an exceptionally severe and significant weather event, and in the days since, engineers have conducted a thorough assessment of the venue in coordination with the City of Toronto. That work has determined that sections of the venue impacted by the storm will need to be removed and rebuilt.”
“ALL ORIGINAL TICKET PURCHASES FOR THE CANCELLED AC/DC CONCERT AT ROGERS STADIUM WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REFUNDED IN FULL THROUGH TICKETMASTER. FANS WHO PURCHASED RESALE TICKETS SHOULD CONTACT THEIR POINT OF SALE FOR REFUND INFORMATION.
ROGERS STADIUM OPERATES UNDER EXTENSIVE OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT AND UNDERGOES A RIGOROUS SAFETY INSPECTION PROCESS. ENGINEERS HAVE WORKED WITH THE CITY OF TORONTO FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT AND CONTINUE TO DO SO AS REMEDIATION WORK MOVES FORWARD.”
