Heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne‘s hopes to get back on the road in 2023 appear to have been dashed a bit amid his ongoing health struggles. The 74-year-old underwent a major surgical procedure this past June to help with complications from a previous surgery and injury. That initial surgery was intended to help alleviate the pain and injuries Osbourne sustained in a 2019 fall during a late night bathroom trip.
That fall unfortunately saw Osbourne rupture several steel plates that were surgically inserted into him back in 2003 following a very serious ATV accident. He went on to be plagued by nerve pain along with balance and mobility issues since receiving the surgery after the fall. This year’s surgery was hoped to correct some of what apparently went sideways during the previous procedure.
Osbourne also revealed that he suffers from an advancing case of PRKN 2 (a form or Parkinson’s Disease), having been diagnosed with the disease back in 2003. Earlier this year, the British metal legend was still looking towards the future, offering:
“I have a goal: that next summer I will be onstage. If I put every effort into it and I still can’t, at least I can’t say that I haven’t tried.”
Since then, the former Black Sabbath vocalist has appeared onstage twice, albeit for limited live performances while aided with a brace to help him stay upright. During a recent appearance on his Ozzy’s Boneyard channel on SiriusXM, Osbourne vented on his frustrations with not yet being able to realize his goals. He commented of not being able to tour:
“It is so fucking tough because, I mean, I want to be out there. I want to be doing it. This fucking surgery this guy did. Fucking hell, you have no idea. The thing is my head is all right, my creativity is OK, my singing OK but I just can’t fucking walk much now.”
He continued:
“I can’t begin to tell you how fucking frustrating life has become. It is amazing how you go along in life and one stupid thing can screw everything up for a long time. I have never been ill this long in my life.”
Osbourne also revealed that he was informed that the surgery he underwent was a necessity, saying of it:
“That surgeon told me if I didn’t have the surgery there would be a good chance I would be paralyzed from the neck down.”
Speaking to Kerrang! earlier this year, Osbourne revealed that further surgeries were apparently out of the question, and this past June’s procedure was the end of the road in that regard. He said of that at the time:
“I had my last surgery in June, I can’t have any more. So whatever I make of it is entirely up to me now.”
