Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger Weighs In On Weed Smoking At Live Shows: “Blow It This Way”

This past September saw Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson criticize several members of a live audience for what he claimed was their excessive weed consumption. Amid the British heavy metal legends’ September 21st headlining show at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, Dickinson took advantage of a pause in the show to vent on the apparently overindulgent intake of cannabis being practiced close to the front row.

Footage of that incident can be found here, with Dickinson stating at the time:

“I don’t know what it is. There’s so many fucking people smoking so much fucking dope down here, I’m amazed you can even see. Poor old Steve [Harris, Iron Maiden bassist.] I don’t know if you know, but he absolutely fucking hates marijuana and the smell of it, alright? So when he’s trying to play bass, it fucks him up. It fucks me up. I’m a singer, alright? So duh.

I would just ask for a tiny bit of respect—if you want to go get completely stoned out of your fucking mind, go out the back and do it. Alright? Otherwise you’re going to end up like this fucking knucklehead here going ‘uhhhh.'”

Chad Kroeger, vocalist/guitarist for diamond-certified Canadian hard rock outfit Nickelback was recently asked by Loudwire Nights about his opinion on weed being smoked at shows, he replied:

“No, I usually say, ‘Blow it this way.’ You can see, if I’m walking across the stage and I’ve got the microphone, I turn around and go, ‘Whoa, something smells really good right around here!’ I mean yeah, that’s what rock concerts are supposed to be. You’re supposed to get a little bit of that.

Well not only that, we’ve shot off so much pyro, and the chemicals I’ve inhaled from that… Oof. That’s far worse than somebody exhaling a little bit of pot smoke toward me, that’s not a big deal. It’s only gonna make the show better!”

Nickelback have become an advocate for the herb in recent years, having recently dropped their new album “Get Rollin’” and it’s apparent stab at a weed anthem in “High Time“. An excerpt of the lyrics from that track can be found below:

“Some folks just go straight and narrow
Turns out that life ain’t right for me
Cause every time we cross state lines
The grass we find on the other side
Always seems to twist up twice as green
Well it’s high time you and I got rollin’
Some place else we just gotta be”
