Chad Kroeger, vocalist/guitarist for diamond-certified Canadian hard rockers Nickelback, fronted a live cover of the Metallica staple “Enter Sandman” this past Monday, October 13th. The set was part of a series of concerts at the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Luis, Mexico celebrating the 78th birthday of rock legend Sammy Hagar.
Kroeger first got up on stage on the drums for a little bit of Van Halen, before launching into the 9x multi-platinum 1991 Metallica hit. Kroeger was flanked onstage by guitarist Vic Johnson, drummer Kenny Aronoff and ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. Hagar will reportedly be guesting on a new Nickelback track that is expected to appear on the band’s upcoming eleventh studio album.
The set that mentioned also saw Alice In Chains‘ vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell sit in for a cover of his legendary grunge band’s track “Rooster“, while Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna took on Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love“.
