Eskimo Callboy Change Name To Electric Callboy Following Criticism

German metalcore band Eskimo Callboy have announced that they have changed their name to Electric Callboy. The band, who are known to indulge in the comedic side, revealed this past December that they were removing some of their older songs due to past offensive lyrical content having become more increasingly problematic in modern times. They also stated at the time that they had been been pondering changing their name.

Their original post outlining that read in part:

“…Thanks for the critical voices about our old lyrics, too. They feel less good, but are just as important. Therefore some real talk for a moment:

The Internet doesn’t forget. Not even the lyrics we wouldn’t write today. We can’t live without fun and irony, but of course there are limits to that. We apologize to everyone we have discriminated or hurt with our lyrics.

That was never our intention. That’s why we are already in the midst of taking these songs offline. We are a tolerant and open-minded band and against any form of racism and exclusion. Our music should be as much fun for all of you as it is for us. But of course you can still think we suck.”

The term Eskimo has grown to be seen as a derogatory name for the Inuit people, given its colonial origins. Along with the name change announcement comes discussion of a charity the band’s drummer David-Karl Friedrich recently launched for the people of the Ukraine, which has raised €56,000 as of press time via GoFundMe.

With those funds he has been supplying people in need at the Ukraine border with essential supplies and helping temporarily house and shelter Ukrainians displaced by the war.  Additionally, the band will also be launching a charity shirt this Friday, with the proceeds to go towards the aforementioned charity.

Speaking of the name change and the charitable efforts, the band released the below statement and video:

“Hey friends,

today we have big news for you!

Some of you that watched our last videos might have expected it already, but today is the day that we change our name!

From now on we are ELECTRIC CALLBOY!

Actually we recorded some more videos with lots of more information… but with the senseless violence that is happening to the people of the ukraine at the moment, it just doesn’t feel right to push that topic any further. Still, we don’t wanna wait any longer with our name change with the knowledge we gained during our journey.

So here we go!

We hope you like our new name as much as we do!

But now, we need your attention to present you 2 charities, that are really important to us!
So please check out this new video and let’s use our energy for peace and solidarity!

Stay safe, We ❤️ You!
