For most aspiring bands of heavier genres, the opportunity to open for thrash metal kings Metallica is a lifelong dream and a badge of honor. Not so for melodic hardcore breakouts Turnstile, who have newly been revealed to have turned down the slot after being invited to share stages together. Metallica vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield recently spoke of that on his ‘James Hetfield’s Riff Life‘ radio show, stating the following of them [transcribed by theprp.com]:
“We have seen them live, we wanted to get them on tour, and they said no. They’re doing good on their own already. But man, what a vibe they bring. They are so fun. Go see them play if you can. Just like many, many bands, they sound great on their records and recordings, but man, when you see them live, you totally get it. We’ve hung out with them a bit. Super cool guys, super fun. They’ve got a gal in the band now playing, which is fun.”
This past spring saw Metallica tour with another artist in the hardcore/metalcore field, bringing out Knocked Loose for much of their European/UK run.
