Alternative metal icons Tool recently drew a substantial amount of criticism for pricing their as-yet unreleased vinyl set for $810 at their live shows this month. As the band explained it via social media, they had received their own personal allotment of the upcoming elaborate 5-LP deluxe edition of their gold-certified 2019 album “Fear Inoculum“—a set not expected to be officially made available to the public until April.
The group decided to autograph these copies and make limited allotments of them available first to those who purchased VIP passes to the immediate shows on the band’s ongoing U.S. tour. Remaining copies of that set each night would then be made available at the merch booth to concert goers for a price of $810 USD.
Per a post shared via Reddit yesterday, it would appear that the band listened to the criticism and adjusted the price of the set to $750. As it stands, numerous copies of the set have since showed up via online auction site eBay, and as of press time are going for prices ranging from $510 to $2400.
If you missed the news yesterday (February 22nd,) Tool announced a 30th anniversary tribute to their 1992 debut EP “Opiate will be arriving this March. That tribute will emerge as both a reimagined version of the title track and a short film to accompany it. The song is due on March 01st and a Blu-ray featuring the film will follow on March 18th.
