Slaves Have Changed Their Name To Rain City Due To ‘Racial Connotations’

Back in the summer of 2020, Sacramento, CA’s Slaves (aka SLVS) vowed that they would be changing their name due to the ‘racial connotations’ it invoked. Given their past association with controversial frontman Jonny Craig and the continual confusion thanks to another band from England of the same name, a ‘fresh’ start certainly didn’t seem like it would be a bad idea for the group.

Today, October 15th they announced that going forward they will now be known as Rain City. Addressing the change in a statement, they offered:

“It was in Manchester, England aka Rainy City, that the five of us met. Our new name – Rain City – is a nod to the serendipity that brought us together and a reminder to keep looking up even when there’s a cloud overhead. We’re so proud to call this thing our own. To our incredible fans, we appreciate you and are forever grateful for your support. This new album is for you.”

In other news, the band have announced that the European leg of their planned touring this year has been pushed back to 2022 due to COVID-19 regulations. Their UK leg this month with Acres and Siamese will go ahead as planned however.
