Testament’s Steve Di Giorgio Rumored To Be Megadeth’s New Temporary Bassist

According to the rumor mill, Megadeth‘s new mystery bassist may be Steve Di Giorgio of Testament, etc. fame. Yesterday (July 12th) saw this recent cameo video from Megadeth vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine make the rounds. In it, the band’s current mystery bassist was obscured by a chair, but their bass guitar was not. Going by the model of bass shown, some have guessed that Di Giorgio has been tapped to take over for David Ellefson on the band’s forthcoming album and their immediate touring. You can see once such tweet below:

Ellefson was fired from the band this past May after several videos of him sexually pleasuring himself in online video chats were leaked online. He has since been seeking revenge porn related charges against the individual who leaked the videos. You can read more on that here.

In addition to his firing, Ellefson‘s previously recorded parts on Megadeth‘s forthcoming studio album were also scrapped, with plans to have them re-recorded, presumably by Di Giorgio if this theory holds true.

Speaking to 96.7 KCAL-FM‘s ‘Wired In The Empirelast month, Mustaine said of their plans:

“…We’re gonna have someone coming in in a couple of weeks to replace the bass tracks that we had. Which should be relatively quick because the person we’re talking to is a stellar bass player. And hopefully this will be an ongoing thing after the recording. Or we will find someone prior to the recording that will be our permanent guy going forward.”
