Sworn In made the following post today that encourages fans to offer some emotional support to bands as well with some kind words, should they see fit.
“Music is art. Art is meant to express the feelings/thoughts of man when words fail to do so.
An artist is merely trying to create something unique to them, that speaks for them, that tells not just a story of their life but a unique view into why that artist may feel he/she is alive in the first place.
But when an artist releases his work to the world, while he seeks to find other souls that may relate to or understand his feelings, he does so keeping in mind that nobody may ever see the same picture he saw while painting it, even if they are physically looking at the same painting. Despite this, he keeps making art for himself, or perhaps to outlet the feelings that make him wish he wasn’t himself.
The point is, while it is so readily available today, Music is still a form of art that deserves respect. The bands you listen to all are real human beings with problems that couldn’t be vocalized through anything other than their music. And they all do so knowing that nobody may ever give a shit about their problems. This is why it genuinely means something to bands when people like you feel an emotional connection to the music they put out.
Keep this in mind and be grateful that after so many years of approval/disapproval, plenty shows played for less than 20 people (every band has them), and the stress of when/if you should just give up and join the “real world”, that your favorite bands are still putting out records.
So today, rather than being so quick to use the Internet to find a band that people are talking about and chime in your two cents, try using the web productively and going to a couple of your favorite bands and telling them you appreciate their music or maybe even just that you were jamming a song of theirs and loving it. Make a positive difference in your own world and support the music that comforts you and relates with you.
