Deftones Set October Release Date For New Album, Work On Elvis Presley & Earth, Wind & Fire Covers

@deftonesband Deftones fans will rejoice at the news that the group now have a tentative release date in mind for their new album. Band frontman Chino Moreno has informed EW.com that they hope to have the as-yet untitled effort in stores on October 09th.

According to Moreno, the band have wrapped up tracking the outing with mixing set to take place over the next few weeks. They once again worked with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Evanescence) on the album with track titles, artwork and more still pending.

As an added bonus the band also expect to track some covers before they exit the studio. According to Moreno:

“We’ve done a lot of ’80s stuff, but we wanted to do something from farther back. We sat down and everybody had their computers on and were playing songs that we like. So we’re going to do an Elvis Presley song — we have five Elvis songs that we’ve been talking about.

And we’re going to do Earth, Wind, and Fire. Hopefully we’ll get at least two, maybe three or four. It’s always fun. We’re done with the real creative part of having to come up with music out of thin air, and now we can be experimental with someone else’s song.”

It’s not all good news for the Deftones camp however. Band bassist Chi Cheng was originally due home from the hospital today, June 29th; but will not be making the trip after suffering another infection. No further details were offered on his condition.

Though I’m not an Elvis fan I’m sure whatever will sound great. I am an Earth Wind and Fire fan. I’m eager to hear what they decide on either way.

        • Because, obviously, everyone should know damn well that Justin Bieber > Steely Dan. Right?

Justin Beiber is Br00tal son. Whenever I hear Nickleback, Coldplay, Justin Beiber I feel like busting skulls ya know? Like pushing ‘em of stage breaking their skulls ya know?

        • Steely Dan is pretty good, bro.

Fun fact: Chevy Chase is the original drummer of the first incarnation of Steely Dan.

        • If I could, I’d hug all you motherfuckers right now. Fuckin’ man-ass man hugs. But I’d still hate Steely Dan. My mom listened to it when she cleaned the house when I was a little kid. I hated cleaning day, it fucking smelled like bleach, every light was on, and motherfucking Steely Dan was blaring. I’m scarred! Psychologically scarred!

Woah guys, I just came back from seeing Iron Maiden, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band as good as they were live, my God.

I could see them rockin’ “(You’re the Devil) In Disguise”, “Little Sister”, or an ambient kinda electronic-ish “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”
My fav “If I Can Dream” would be sweet, too!

Deftones can cover anybody and make it sound great but NO ONE can cover the Deftones and come close to doing them justice. It’s probably Chino’s voice. One of a kind.

I am beyond excited about anything this band does. My musical tastes vary over the years, but Deftones has remained a constant since I was 17. I enjoyed Diamond Eyes every bit as much as Around The Fur, and I never would have thought that possible. As far as covers, I never thought a cover of Simple Man would have ever been better than the original, but they might as well have wrote that song themselves, they fucking nailed it. Then bust out some Sade and nail that too? Shinedown’s cover of Simple Man is an embarrassment in comparison.
