Deftones vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno took a tumble onstage during his band’s May 13th set at the Spark Arena in Auckland, NZ. The unexpected close encounter with the stage took place 15 songs into the 19-song setlist for that night. Ironically, it also occurred during a performance of “Hole In The Earth” — the lead single from the alternative metal luminaries’ gold-certified fifth studio album “Saturday Night Wrist“.
Fan-filmed footage of Moreno‘s mishap can be seen below. Moreno has had multiple onstage falls over the years, including a a 2017 misadventure off the stage that saw him break his foot. As for this latest onstage slip-up, the 52-year-old took it in stride, quickly recovering and managing to not miss a single beat. He also went on to finish out the remainder of the set without incident.
If Moreno did suffer injury to anything but his pride, he’s at least got a few days to convalesce. The aforementioned show closed out Deftones‘ headlining run across Australia and New Zealand. The esteemed group will next be onstage starting Monday, May 18th for a trio of shows across Japan:
05/18 Tokyo, JPN – Tokyo Garden Theater
05/19 Osaka, JPN – Zepp Osaka Bayside
05/20 Nagoya, JPN – Comtec Portbase
