Given the seismic shift in the political complexion of the United States that transpired via this week’s midterm elections, you can bet Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello had some thoughts to share. Fiercely politically outspoken, Morello has actively campaigned against many of the policies of the current U.S. administration, holding rallies, live benefit concerts and various protests, while also directly calling out U.S. President Donald J. Trump on numerous occasions.
Taking to social media yesterday, November 04th, Morello offered up a video message about the so-called ‘blue tsunami’, which saw the Democrat party largely trounce the Republican party, gaining control of both the House and Senate, while also flipping past Republican strongholds. Here’s what he had to say [transcribed by theprp.com]:
“Last night’s election results were only the start. Sure, it was a repudiation of the ruling class, a repudiation of oligarchy, a repudiation of racism, a repudiation of ICE, a repudiation of wars overseas, a repudiation of our tax dollars being used to massacre children overseas rather than to serve our communities here. To serve our hospitals. To serve our schools. To serve our needy here.
It was a repudiation of all of Trump’s wannabe Nazi bitches. It was a repudiation of Trumpism generally, and that’s all a good thing. But the real work starts now. Yes, the voting is done. But the day after the election it’s up to every one of us to continue to fight for the world we really want without compromise, without apology, and to not let those sons of bitches off the hook.
Those that are in Washington, and on a daily basis, in our lives, in our schools, in our places of work; to continue to work and fight and organize for a more just, for a more peaceful, more equitable world. That is the job before us. Power to the people.”
While some might interpret Morello‘s comments as being a wholehearted endorsement of the Democrat party, a recent interview with Rolling Stone found him briefly touch on his voting preference in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, when asked if he voted for Kamala Harris, Morello responded, “I certainly did not.”. He asked to clarify, he offered, “Did not. I couldn’t do it.” It wasn’t however clear who Morello voted for.
