Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo has made his return to Instagram after going dark on the service this past March. Much was said about Shomo‘s decision to exit the social media platform, with his departure arriving in the wake of intense criticism from some over his radical makeover that was showcased in the band’s video for “Free“ roughly a week prior to his Instagram exit.
While some of his peers rallied behind him, others made made snide jokes, which in the case of Attila vocalist Chris Fronzak, he later apologized for. In an interview that was published weeks into his social media blackout, Shomo told Full Metal Jackie of “Free” and the response the video for it, and his included makeover in it, brought:
“…All I’m trying to do is just be as honest as I can and enjoy this very, very amazing gift that I have of being able to be in a band and that be my job, and make the art that I wanna make. I understand how rare it is. I understand how blessed I am to be able to do this, so I just wanna make the most of it.
And I know if I kind of get wrapped up in how people are reacting or get wrapped up in the people who don’t resonate with it, then maybe I’ll lose sight of all the people who do resonate with it.
And more importantly, I’ll lose sight of the only person who truly resonates with it, and that is me. And I just wanna be happy doing what I’m doing. So, that’s all I’m trying to focus on at the moment.”
Shomo‘s return post In Instagram was shared today, May 12th, and is this collection of images from the road, behind the scenes and more, all of which were presented without commentary. Shomo‘s return to social media coincides with the below tease of more new music seemingly set to emerge from the platinum-certified melodic metalcore band he fronts. That group’s sixth studio album is expected out later this year.
