An outreach campaign to locate American Head Charge vocalist Cameron Heacock led by Holiday Kirk from The Nu Metal Agenda has successfully made contact with the struggling musician. Appearing last month on the Soft White Underbelly podcast, an emaciated Heacock detailed his battles with addiction which have left him homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
Sadly, the struggles of substance abuse and mental illness are interwoven throughout much of American Head Charge‘s career, with Heacock‘s struggles on display prior to the band crumbling in 2017. Heacock had racked up numerous drug possession charges prior to infamously being arrested with a van full of stolen instruments and more in April of 2018.
In the above-mentioned interview, Heacock spoke candidly about his spiraling addiction to heroin, which these days had transitioned into fentanyl. He also detailed how he had been living on the streets on Los Angeles for some time now and the circumstances that led him there. That interview also found him longing to return to music and get his life back in order.
Spurred by the interview, Holiday Kirk launched the The Something Beautiful Project, which adopted its name from the lyrics to the 2001 American Head Charge track “Just So You Know“. With Kirk local to Los Angeles, he began setting out to locate Heacock with the ultimate goal of providing meaningful assistance and helping him off the streets and get sober. Per an update posted today, December 22nd, Heacock has been located.
An update shared by Kirk today read as follows:
“While we work together to put together an organized treatment plan I am offering you the chance to contribute a small dollar donation while I buy Cam anything he needs for survival purposes. You can help us out by donating at this link, everything raised will be spent exclusively on Cam. I don’t have any way of guarenteeing you that but dammit you have to trust me. This is not something I would ever lie about, every penny that comes to me through that link will go to Cam.”
Donations are currently being accepted via ko-fi.com/holidaykirk, with further details available at somethingbeautifulproject.com.
