American Head Charge vocalist Cameron Heacock is officially no longer homeless. This past November saw Heacock, who was living on the streets in Los Angeles following a long history of drug addiction and associated struggles, participate in this interview with Soft White Underbelly. Heacock, who looked alarmingly emaciated and unhealthy, recounted the various incidents that led him to becoming homeless and how his drug addiction had spiraled out of control.
Back in 2018, Heacock was arrested while driving a van filled with stolen goods, including over a dozen stolen guitars and more. Heacock had also racked up numerous drug possession charges prior to that incident.
Spurred by the interview and Heacock‘s expressed desire to once again get clean, Holiday Kirk from The Nu Metal Agenda set out to track down Heacock in the Los Angeles area, and upon locating him, launched The Something Beautiful Project. The endeavor initially set out to raise funds to get Heacock into an organized treatment plan for his addiction issues and continues to help fund his efforts to get his life back on track.
In a post shared today, July 30th, Kirk has revealed that Heacock‘s ongoing rehabilitation has seen him approved for city housing, with Kirk offering the following of the matter:
“Cameron Heacock is no longer homeless. His application for city housing was approved and he moved into a unit yesterday. I cannot possibly explain to you all how proud I am of my best friend, Cam. There were so many moments during these last eight months when thinks looked impossible, tougher than you could imagine, but he never gave up. And now I get to say it, in fact I’ll say it again, Cameron Heacock of American Head Charge is no longer homeless. This would not have been possible without the support of everyone who has contributed to The Something Beautiful Project, thank you to everyone who took the time to be apart of this. We’re not done, not even close. But everything just got a lot easier to do.
Let’s keep on pushing the envelope.”
‘The Something Beautiful Project‘ has also seen past American Head Charge releases appear on streaming services, with additional funds having also assisted Heacock with getting extensive dental work done, having lost a considerable amount of teeth amid the throes of his addiction and life on the streets.
