Phil Srgrosso, guitarist and one of the core members of As I Lay Dying alongside vocalist Tim Lambesis, has issued a brief statement regarding his standing with the San Diego, CA-based metalcore band. In a post shared via social media this morning (October 24th), Sgrosso stated:

“I will be making a personal statement shortly on where I stand in the current AILD situation.

There’s a lot more of the beaurocracy/business that I am navigating at the moment but I will share more with you once a clear path of moving forward presents itself.”

Sgrosso joined the band in 2003 and later rejoined the outfit along with several other former members in 2018, when the group reformed after Tim Lambesis‘s stint in prison for attemping to have his wife at the time murdered.

Sgrosso was the only core member of the band to remain onboard alongside Lambesis amid a wave of pandemic era departures that saw guitarist/vocalist Nick Hipa & bassist/vocalist Josh Gilbert leave. Co-founding drummer Jordan Mancino became estranged from the band around that period too.

Sgrosso‘s statement arrives in the wake of three other departures with bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff, guitarist Ken Susi and drummer Nick Pierce all having exited in past few days.

Given Sgrosso‘s tenure in the band, he is understood to have a key stake in the group, and also has featured songwriter credits throughout the band’s new album “Through Storms Ahead“, due out November 15th. The aforementioned trio who recently exited the group joined up in 2022.

Given the current state of the band, their fall European tour was canceled without official acknowledgement from the band thus far, though openers in Decapitated and Ov Sulfur have since confirmed the news. Decapitated stated today:

“Dear Fans,

We regret to inform you that, due to circumstances beyond our control, the upcoming tour has been cancelled.

We are very sorry for all our fans who were planning to come to these shows and already bought tickets.

Get ready for an amazing new tour that’s on the way—we can’t wait to make it up to you!

Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for support!

Tickets can be refunded at your point of purchase.”

Ov Sulfur:

“Unfortunately our European tour with @asilaydying, @decapitatedband and @calibanofficial has been canceled. We are disappointed to not play for our fans overseas for what would have been our first time, but this was out of our control. We look forward to making it to your side of the world as soon as we can.

Sadly some costs incurred are not recoupable, so if you have the means it would mean the world if you check out any of our merch stores or stream our music. Thank you and see you soon.”
