It turns out that yesterday’s black metal themed video for Metallica‘s new track “ManUNkind” (see below) was actually a sneak peek at the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of the 1998 book, ‘Lords Of Chaos‘. The book and film chronicles the early 90’s black metal scene, focusing mostly on Mayhem. Among the most infamous exploits of the group’s early career were vocalist Dead taking his own life and former bassist Varg Vikernes stabbing guitarist Øystein ‘Euronymous’ Aarseth to death.
A former member of Bathory himself, filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund (The Prodigy, Metallica) directed the clip and is also helming the movie. The video featured much of the primary cast for the upcoming film adaptation, which includes:
Rory Culkin as ‘Euronymous‘
Emory Cohen as ‘Varg‘
Jack Kilmer as ‘Dead’
Valter Skarsgård as ‘Faust’
Sky Ferreira as ‘Ann-Marit’
Of course, Mayhem haven’t been too supportive of the film in the past, with bassist Necrobutcher having been working on a rival film adaptation of the story.
