Greg Puciato On LGBT-Benefit Shirt: "I’ll Cherish Larry The Cock-Horned Human Rights Pegasus’ 24 Hour Glory Day Forever"

Earlier in the month The Dillinger Escape Plan released in their own words the “gayest shirt of all time by any band“. The band did it to not only incense any homophobic fans they might have/had, but also to benefit the LGBT charity The Trevor Project. Frontman Greg Puciato has checked in with the following update on the reaction to the shirt and a thank you to fans who have stuck by the group throughout the years:

“Hey everyone, I want to start by saying thanks for your support of that shirt a couple of weeks ago. It’s beyond gratifying to be able to be an adult and have a random thought of “I think we should make a shirt with a dick-horned pegasus cumming a rainbow, and give half of the proceeds to a charity”, and then not only see that happen but have it become our best selling limited shirt of all time. You are all…to use a worn-out thrown-about word….amazing. Being able to have such a ridiculous idea and see it manifested, and being able to use that idea for good, and seeing how on the same page you all were with the sentiment behind that idea…the whole thing…was just really incredible so I wanted to take personal time to say thanks. I’ll cherish Larry The Cock-Horned Human Rights Pegasus’ 24 hour glory day forever. May he forever ejaculate rainbows. Seriously, thank you.

Also…to take that to something larger, thanks for all of your support over the last few years, towards us for what we do in DEP, and for the things that we all do outside of it. I’m saying all of this because not having personal social media anymore, I don’t get to talk to you all as much, besides through occasional posts or joking with you in the comments sections on here now and then, and although that restraint from having regular literal articulation and communication of ideas with you has had a profoundly stimulating effect on my artistic approach and output and expression, which was the intention, don’t think that I don’t miss you all.

Many of you have been around for a long time and watched us evolve and grow up in various ways. You found your way into this weird thing at some point, and you stayed, and have been on the front lines at shows that at times have resembled small riots more than performances, you’ve been thrown all kinds of different musical ideas, you’ve been there during good times and during times that behind the scenes for us individually and/or collectively may have otherwise seemed bleak, lonely, without hope, chaotic, confusing, or any combination of those things, so there’s this weird bond that exists that many people couldn’t understand and that defies the easy categorization that society loves to impose on relationships and things in general. It’s so often that you see audiences say that an artist or band has helped them get through tough times or soundtracked good ones, but for us too, you have been a port in our storms many a time, or a source of inspiration, and it’s not expressed often enough. So yeah, just saying hey, love y’all, full homo, etc. Can’t wait to see some of you in Europe/Aus/NZ. –Greg
