My Chemical Romance penultimate show of their residency at the Hollywood Bowl last night, October 30th, saw the multi-platinum emo rock band indicate that they intend to make their long-awaited fifth studio album in 2027. That confirmation follows months of rumors and vague hints of a follow-up to 2010’s “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys” being eyed.
During the concert, frontman Gerard Way addressed the crowd as follows:
“Next year, we want to go make a record, so we’re probably not doing any shows and there’s no secret code to that… I mean, maybe if we get really rusty while we’re making something, we’ll be like, ‘alright, let call the band ‘Helena’ or something’, and we’ll show up. But seriously, we want to go do that and then hopefully we’ll see you guys in 2028.”
Last night’s set also saw a few setlist surprises as well. Among them, the live debut of their “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys” bonus track, ““We Don’t Need Another Song About California“, and their first live performance of “You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison” with The Used‘s Bert McCracken since 2005.
The Used were the openers during last night’s show, and Way joined the band for a performance of “Buried Myself Alive” during their opening set, marking the first time he had done so since 2005 as well.
My Chemical Romance‘s residency celebration of their 2006 hit studio album “The Black Parade” at the Hollywood Bowl comes to an end tonight, Halloween (October 31st).
