In February of 2025 reports emerged that funk rock icons Red Hot Chili Peppers were shopping the rights to their masters for their dozen-plus studio albums and more for roughly $350 million. Per a new report filed by The Hollywood Reporter, that sale has now been finalized, with with Warner Music Group assuming ownership of the band’s recorded catalog. Of course, many of those albums also initially arrived under the Warner banner as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sale came in at closer to $300 million however.
The Hollywood Reporter cite sources familiar with the sale for the report and noted that neither the band’s camp nor spokespeople for WMG responded to a request for comment on the reported sale. The Red Hot Chili Peppers previously got a $140 million payday back in 2021, when they sold off their publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs Fund.
With countless platinum and gold certifications and six singles in Spotify‘s billion stream club at the moment, Warner Music Group appears to be confident in the band’s catalog retaining considerable staying power.
