It’s officially the beginning of the end for thrash metal pillar Megadeth. One of the so-called ‘big four’ alongside their peers in Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, the legendary metal band how vowed to call it quits following the conclusion of a farewell tour that will launch around their upcoming self-titled seventeenth studio album.

A January 23rd release date has now been scheduled for that record, which will feature 11 tracks and is set to arrive through BLKIIBLK. Tonight (October 02nd)saw the debut of the first single from that record, “Tipping Point“. The band’s founder, vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine, publicly announced this past August the multi-platinum band’s plans to begin winding down their career, issuing this statement. Newly addressing this latest single, Mustaine offered:

“We all have different ‘tipping points’ and they may vary from day to day. I think we’re all being pushed to the edge right now, and it’s easy to lean into that feeling. But it’s important not to let things get you down.”

The first leg of that touring has already begun, with the band currently out touring Europe and the UK alongside Disturbed on the latter’s 25th anniversary tour for “The Sickness“.
