Per Billboard, Deftones‘ tenth studio album “private music” will open at #5 on the Billboard 200. The veteran alternative metal band are said to have moved 87,000 album-equivalent units of that record during its first week of availability. 66,000 of that tally is being attributed to pure sales, with 26.72 million on-demand streams accounting for the remainder.
The group, who are currently experiencing a career high resurgence easily bested the first week performance of their previous album, 2020’s “Ohms“. That effort moved a total of 49,000 units during its first week, also opening at #5 on the Billboard 200.
While interest in Deftones may be at an all-time high, the group’s first week performance of their 2000 landmark album “White Pony” still commands their highest numbers, having opened at #3 on the Billboard 200 with 178,000 copies. The updated Billboard 200 chart reflecting the performance of “private music” is expected to be published on September 03rd, a day later than usual on account of the Labor Day holiday.
