There appears to be warring factions in the Jesus Piece camp. Today, August 26th, a post shared by 3/4th of the metalcore band revealed the news, claiming that a member of the group had disbanded sometime ago after an unspecified member had abruptly quit. The only full-time not to sign that joint statement was vocalist Aaron Heard.
What’s more, just minutes ahead of this statement, Heard promoted an upcoming October 25th Jesus Piece show as part of the ‘One Big Party‘ festival in Phoenix, AZ. Notably the band are billed under the name ‘Je$us Piece‘, with Heard also reflecting that name change on his Instagram profile.
In their joint statement issued today, guitarist David Updike, guitarist John DiStefano and drummer Luis Aponte implied that Heard is apparently attempting to carry on the band without them, calling it “a mockery of what we’ve done and tried to do.” That trio’s statement reads:
“Jesus Piece has been dead for some time. A member quit abruptly for personal reasons and we felt wrong continuing without him.
Anything you see associated with this name or similar, playing our music and using our art, is not related to anything we worked for over the last 10 years.
We are proud of everything we did and it changed our live forever. To try and continue that without us or in spite of us, is a mockery of what we’ve done and tried to do.
Thank you all for everything!
Lu, John, Dave“
