Gojira On Their Upcoming New Album: "We're Going Back To Big Guitar Riffs And A More Metal, But More Modern, Sound"

French progressive metal greats Gojira have had a historic touring cycle on the back of their 2021 album “Fortitude“. If becoming the first metal band to play the Olympics opening ceremony and subsequently winning a GRAMMY Award for that landmark collaboration wasn’t enough, they’ve also recently toured with Korn and secured an upcoming run with Metallica.

Their Olympics exploits even managed to help secure them an invite to perform alongside metal and rock royalty at the ‘Back To The Beginning‘ live farewell sendoff for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath.

It’s been a whirlwind of towering highs for the band, with Gojira successfully ticking off more bucket list items in the past four years than most bands can hope to during their entire career.

2026 will see the band choosing to keep up that momentum, opening a new chapter with the upcoming release of their eighth studio album. In a recently shared interview with le Parisien, drummer Mario Duplantier briefly spoke on where the group are with that highly-anticipated new opus:

“It’s almost finished. We’re going back to big guitar riffs and a more metal, but more modern, sound. There are two more songs to refine. We wanted to move quickly, but we didn’t succeed. We thought about it so much that we almost got lost. It’s harder to match our tastes than when we were 20, and that’s normal.”

While most bands would be itching to take a break and get some much deserved time off the road, Gojira continue to soldier on, with the below dates booked to lead them into that album’s eventual release date.
