Multi-platinum emo rock stars My Chemical Romance had a surprise live debut in store for the first of their pair of headlining shows at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA over the weekend. This past Saturday’s sold out July 26th opening date found the band delivering a first-ever live performance of their track “War Beneath The Rain“. That song was originally intended to appear on an conceptual album from the band dubbed “The Paper Kingdom“, which they scrapped around 2012-2013 amid their initial breakup.

Recording sessions for that effort took place under producer Doug McKean, who passed away as a result of a brain hemorrhage in June of 2022. My Chemical Romance dedicated the debut of the above-mentioned track to McKean, with vocalist Gerard Way stating from the stage ahead of the premiering the song:

“I don’t remember how long ago it was, but before the band broke up, we had a studio in North Hollywood and we were making a record that never came out and this was one of the songs we really loved from it. It was just us in the studio with our friend Doug McKean, he was there recording it. His family’s here tonight, I want this to go out to them. The song is called ‘The War Beneath The Rain‘.”
