Yesterday, April 26th, saw nü-metal champs Limp Bizkit link up with thrash metal icons Metallica for the first of their six shows together this summer. Bizkit are just one of several outfits scheduled to open for Metallica across their touring over the next few months, with the likes of Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies & Ice Nine Kills also being booked.
While Metallica and Limp Bizkit previously embarked on a more traditional run together back in 2003 as part of the ‘Summer Sanitarium Tour, this latest trek is limited to scattered stops. Well ahead of it, Limp Bizkit were already showing their reverence for the mighty Metallica, frequently performing tan abridged rendition of the title track to Californian metal kings’ revered 1986 album, “Master Of Puppets“.
Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland even took it a step further earlier this month, showcasing his creative take on Metallica‘s instrumental masterpiece, “Orion“. Now, as seen during last night’s set at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON, the ever-flamboyant Borland made a more subtle nod to the legacy of Metallica during their opening set.
Borland adorned his guitar with the phrase ‘EET PHO’ — a tribute to the phrase ‘EET FUK’ that was emblazoned upon Metallica vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield‘s beloved 1987 ESP MX220 that he used extensively throughout the mid to late 80s.
In the below video shared by a fan, that homage is almost a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, which is perhaps why the clip even spurred a comment from Borland himself. Replying to a fan who noticed the nod in the video, Borland offered “how did you even see that in the video?”
Limp Bizkit‘s remaining dates with Metallica & Ice Nine Kills over the coming weeks include:
05/03 Nashville, TN – Nissan Stadium
05/23 Philadelphia, PA – Lincoln Financial Field
06/06 Tampa, FL – Raymond James Stadium
06/20 Santa Clara, CA – Levi’s Stadium
