Per the last update from the band, the current status of Faith No More sadly remains up in the air. This past January, bassist Billy Gould stated the following of where the highly influential group currently stand:
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. And you don’t have to believe me, but there’s nothing… Right now we’re in a really weird spot, a really strange spot, and I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different information from people, and I’m in the band, so…”
His comments followed a few years of dormancy that sprung up amid the pandemic. While the band had originally intended to remain active, the complications of that global lockdown negatively impacted the mental health of vocalist Mike Patton, leading to a string of canceled shows. With Patton having since sought out therapy and returned to the road with his other musical pursuits, some had hoped Faith No More would be following suit.
However, that has yet to happen, with the unwitting godfathers of nü-metal once again sidelined by “a semi-permanent hiatus.” Given the apparent lack of activity in the camp, a curious development occurred a few weeks back on February 25th.
A live album dubbed “Evidencia (Live In Santiago ’95)” from the group cropped up on several digital service providers. That effort captured the September 08th, 1995 live set the band played at the Teatro Monumental in Santiago, Chile as part of the ‘Monsters Of Rock‘ festival.
More curious, it emerged through a label venture called Brujo, rather than Patton‘s own Ipecac Recordings, who had handled the band’s most recent output.
While a YouTube stream of the record has since seen the videos pulled, a listing for the 17-track live offering remains available through Deezer. It remains unclear whether or not this is an official release leaked earlier than intended, the case of a bad actor potentially trying to cash in on the band’s performance, or some other unknown scenario.
Thus far, the band have yet to publicly address the matter. However, they are coming up on an important milestone, with their fifth studio album “King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime” set to turn 30 on March 28th.
