Polish death metal/groove metal band Decapitated drew some inspiration from an unlikely source for their song “Spheres Of Madness“. Officially released as part of the band’s 2002 sophomore album “Nihility“, that track has remained a fan favorite, sitting comfortably as their third most streamed song online.
During a recent appearance on the Garza Podcast, the band’s guitarist Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka revealed that the guitar playing of Limp Bizkit‘s inventive shredder Wes Borland directly influenced the whammy bar usage on “Spheres Of Madness“.
Kieltyka showed off the riff to host Chris Garza (of Suicide Silence, etc.), and stated: “I made the song in one day… in maybe just two hours — like whole song.” He continued, “There’s this part with whammy bar. You will never guess from where I was inspired by that: Limp Bizkit.” He went on to say, “I’m not inspired by Limp Bizkit, but this whammy bar… it sounds so powerful, you know? It’s a cool trick.”
