There’s been a lot of speculation running around the internet lately regarding the identity of Locus Ultra. Much of the rumors have the masked and (somewhat) mysterious outfit being a creative endeavor helmed by members of Underoath, presumably as part of a PR stunt for Underoath‘s forthcoming new album.
The phrase ‘Locus Ultra’ has shown up in recent Underoath marketing material, while imagery associated with the mystery project has also seemingly appeared on the backdrop at Underoath‘s January 30th show in Honolulu. The rumors reached a fever pitch this week though, amid Locus Ultra‘s first two live performances on the ‘Emo’s Not Dead Cruise‘.
According to Reddit, numerous members ofUnderoath were present aboard the boat, despite the band not being billed.
You can find some related footage and shots from Locus Ultra‘s sets below. Their apparent subterfuge isn’t exactly brazen. As you can see in the above image, the red bandana often worn by Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie is also present around the neck of Locus Ultra‘s drummer.
Locus Ultra ended both of their performances with the below message shown on a video backdrop:
“WE HAVE BEEN LOCUS ULTRA.
AN IDEA THAT IS HOUSED IN BEING FREE, EXPRESSING LOVE FOR MUSIC, CREATIVITY, HONESTY AND THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT THOSE IDEAS. LIFE IS MORE THAN NUMBERS, STATUS, IDENTITY AND PROFIT. IF ANYTHING, THEY ARE THE VERY THINGS THAT DILUTE OUR TRUE PURPOSE.
IN A WORLD THAT IS MARRED BY CHAOS AND PIAS, IT IS RARE THAT PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED, YET ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE THEIR TRUE SELVES. SOMETIMES PRETENDING TO BE ANYTHING ELSE IS HEALING.
TONIGHT WAS ONE OF FIVE NIGHTS TOTAL THAT THIS BODY OF WORK WILL EVER BE PERFORMED IN IT’S ENTIRETY. OUR GOAL IS TO NOT TRY AND MAKE HISTORY, BUT SHARE A MOMENT IN TIME WITH PEOPLE THAT WE OWE THE WORLD TO.
THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY IT TAKES TO PUT YOUR WHOLE SELF INTO A CREATIVE VENTURE IS EXHAUSTING AND THIS WILL BE A NIGHT THAT WE HOLD DEAR TO OUR HEARTS FOREVER.
THANK YOU TO E.N.D. AND OUR ENTIRE TEAM FOR MAKING THIS DREAM POSSIBLE. WE THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING AND BEING A PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL AND WE HOPE, ALBIET FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE FOR A BIT AND BE YOUR TRUE SELF.
UNTIL WE REACH THE PLACE AFTER THIS ONE, THIS… LIFE IS ALL WE HAVE. LET’S MAKE… OF IT. YOU BELONG HERE, EVEN IF IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE IT AT TIMES.”
As mentioned in the above statement from the band, only five shows are planned, two of which just transpired on the aforementioned cruise. The final three shows will play out as follows with Norma Jean and LIMBS:
02/10 Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Culture Room
02/11 Orlando, FL – The Abbey
02/12 Tampa, FL – The Orpheum
