Doom pop outfit SOM have just rolled out an Alex Pace (Blood Incantation, Wayfarer)-directed music video for their new track “Give Blood“. The song helps herald the forthcoming March 14th release of the band’s just revealed new album, “Let The Light In“, which will be out on Pelagic Records.
The writing and recording process for this third studio album presented some unforeseen challenges, with the exit of co-founding drummer Duncan Rich leaving the band to rework and re-record a considerable amount of material in a newly reconfigured format.
Offering an explanation into the inspiration for this single, vocalist/guitarist/synth player Will Benoit stated:
“It’s a sort of post-pandemic reflection on kindness and how we treat one another. The idea came while I was laying on a table, actually giving blood. It occurred to me how kind someone would have to be to be doing this during a pandemic.
I started to think about how many people were doing awful things at that time, spreading misinformation, and just generally being horrible people in society. I continue to want to do everything I can to not be that person, I want to be the kind of person who ‘gives blood.'”
