When it comes to the hiatus Jane’s Addiction are currently facing, guitarist Dave Navarro doesn’t seem too positive it will end. Several months into finally being able to reunite their classic era lineup this past spring, the multi-platinum alternative rock outfit imploded onstage last weekend. Their tour came to a screeching halt after vocalist Perry Farrell got into a physical altercation with Navarro at a show in Boston, MA.

Since then, the outfit cancelled the remaining dates of their reunion tour, revealing in a statement issued this past Monday, September 16th that they, “made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.”

Farrell‘s wife attributed her husband’s onstage meltdown to a combination of setbacks, citing his issues with his tinnitus, problems with his voice, and his frustration with the mix of the audio onstage that night. However, Farrell also delivered a worryingly sloppy performance a few nights prior to the aforementioned fight.

Ultimately, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins issued a collective statement on their own, outlining their concerns regarding “the mental health difficulties” of Farrell. Farrell for his part, issued a statement of his own, in which he he apologized for his behavior.

While one would expect that be a sad closing chapter in the group’s storied, and at times tumultuous career, they dropped their new single “True Love yesterday (September 18th.) While some may have taken the arrival of this second new track in 34 year from that specific roster of the group as a sign of hope for the future, it doesn’t seem that is the case.

Speaking of that song yesterday on social media, Navarro seemingly indicated that the band’s future outlook remains bleak. He stated on Instagram:

“New Jane’s Addiction track released today, ‘True Love‘. I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live. I’d also like to publicly apologize to our crew, @crawlersband and their crew and to @loveandrocketsofficial and their crew. Thanks for being our travel companions for as long as you did. I am gutted that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result. May all of our hearts mend together.”
