Song ideas for new material from Tool continue to accumulate according to the band’s bassist Justin Chancellor. Appearing recently on The Vinyl Guide, the acclaimed musician revealed a basic timeframe for their plans for their follow-up to their chart-topping 2019 opus, “Fear Inoculum“.
Chancellor commented:
“We’ve got many ideas cooking. We haven’t recorded anything yet. But we’re quite busy until — I guess until after the spring of next year touring. So once that’s done, we’re gonna get back in the studio and knuckle down and put some of it together. We’ve already had a few pretty decent sessions of writing. So we’ve got the ingredients in place. We’ve just gotta really bang it out and spend that time when we’re not touring.”
Given the 13-year wait in-between “10,000 Days” and the album mentioned above, fans have been hoping for the multi-platinum progressive metal outfit to get back in the studio in a more timely fashion this time around. While drummer Danny Carey had hopes for an EP to materialize in the quarantine era, those plans never managed to reach fruition.
That said, according to Chancellor, the band are still sitting on plenty of new song ideas leftover from the sessions for their current album as well. He commented:
“[We have] tons [of song ideas] from the last album. We have tons of ideas, but not recorded to the standard we’d put on an album. Just kind of, I’d say, lots of demoed stuff. And then just tons of ideas just kind of stored away.”
While touring with Tool will consume much of Chancellor‘s immediate schedule, he will be dropping new music next month in the form of the sophomore album from his MTVoid project with Sweet Noise/Serce vocalist Peter Mohamed. That record, “Matter’s Knot, Pt. 1“, will be out on November 10th.
