Amid a recent discussion with Revolver, multi-faceted musician Greg Puciato spoke of his acclaimed former mathcore outfit The Dillinger Escape Plan and if he misses the group. The aforementioned interview was conducted in regards to Puciato‘s current role as rising metalcore faction Better Lovers.
When the conversation veered into seeing if Puciato‘s full-scale return to heavy music with Better Lovers has made him long for his role as lead daredevil in The Dillinger Escape Plan, the renowned live performer had an answer many fans will likely not want to hear.
As he went on to reveal, despite numerous offers having been made to get that storied group to reunite, his own viewpoint remains unchanged. Late last year, the group’s former drummer Billy Rymer sparked rumors of a potential return. While those rumblings were shot down by the band’s former chief architect, guitarist Ben Weinman, fans still remain hopeful that one day it will happen.
Speaking on how he himself views TDEP these days, Puciato told Revolver:
“I don’t miss it at all. And I hate to say this, but if we were to get back together, it would be for money. And I don’t fucking want to do that. Every year, all those festivals… they just throw astronomical amounts of money at us to get back together. And it’s never even been something that we even entertain.
When Dillinger ended, I thought to myself, ‘OK, I want at least five years,’ and now it’s been six and I can’t imagine it happening within the next five years, even.”
Key members of TDEP have branched off into numerous different ventures since TDEP hung it up back in late 2017. Puciato has remained active with his solo project and his synthwave venture The Black Queen. In addition to the fledgling Better Lovers, he also remained an active member of Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell‘s touring ensemble.
Weinman has been serving as the guitarist/vocalist for gold-certified crossover legends Suicidal Tendencies, in addition to taking on work scoring films. Bassist Liam Wilson launched the band Azusa and has most recently become a live touring member of pioneering Swedish melodeath outfit In Flames.
Drummer Billy Rymer has been involved in various projects, including Thoughtcrimes. Rhythm guitarist Kevin Antreassian has taken up production work and has also been playing with The Sawtooth Grin and Knife The Glitter.
