Ghost‘s TikTok smash “Mary On A Cross” has officially earned the Swedish metal band their first platinum record in the United States. The RIAA certified the song as such yesterday, September 07th. It previously went gold in November of last year. The track picked up traction on the aforementioned social media platform several years after its release, propelling it to become their most popular song to date.
A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit.
