As I Lay Dying‘s eighth studio album is currently being mixed. The long-running metalcore faction are sporting a different lineup for this upcoming opus, with only vocalist Tim Lambesis and guitarist/vocalist Phil Sgrosso remaining from the band’s last offering, 2019’s “Shaped By Fire“.

Former Unearth members Ken Susi (guitars) and Nick Pierce (drums) have both since been recruited to the group’s live lineup and contributed to this new record. Likewise, current bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff (of Miss May I) also took part in the outing.

Speaking recently at the ‘Graspop Metal Meeting‘, Lambesis said of the current status of the record:

“We partly self-produced [it], and then we also worked with another producer. So we spent about a year working on the album by ourselves before we gave it to the producer, who’s mixing the album now.”

When asked of the impact of the new members, he added:

Nick, Ryan and Ken are] new for us, but, obviously, the guys have been around playing music for 20 years themselves. We’re familiar, just having spent so much time with Unearth, and then Miss May I having a pretty similar sound.

The songwriting within As I Lay Dying has historically been mostly Phil and I. Josh [Gilbert], our previous bass player, helped. But the core of the songwriting is the same. So this additional layer that we get from these new guys is almost like breathing fresh new air… a breath of fresh air.”
